Introducing Our Tutors


Tom King

Tom is a guitar maker/repairer/teacher based in Melbourne, Australia.

Tom studied luthiery in the Netherlands at De Haan Guitars’ Dutch School of Guitar Making, where he later returned as an instructor and developed his passion for teaching. Closer to home, he worked for several years with Cole Clark Guitars where he developed an appreciation for Australia's incredible native tonewoods. Tom’s background as a Materials Engineer has also helped him experiment with uncommon materials and novel build techniques.

Since starting at TSM Tom has expanded his knowledge and skill base to be a masterful furniture maker, recently receiving notable mentions in the Wood Review Maker of the year awards.

Rohan De Beaux

Rohan is a passionate designer & maker. He is the owner operator of Studio Daam, based in Melbourne’s West on Bunurong Country. Proudly sourcing natural, local and sustainable material to conceptualise, design and build signature pieces with a unique twist.

He prides himself on creating furniture that not only looks beautiful but is also crafted to last a lifetime. He believes that furniture should be more than just functional.

Patrick Holcombe

Patrick Holcombe, Douglas Fir Design – Patrick Holcombe creates beautiful furniture by hand in Melbourne. His background in Ecology guides the choices he makes and the materials he uses. The majority of his work uses recycled timber, mainly australian hardwoods and big Oregon beams. The joinery and techniques he uses are modern and understated. He prefers the structure of the piece to explain itself, the strength to be evident inherently in the materials used.

Wanda Gillespie
