Introduction into Woodwork - Set Project
The cabinet
This Cabinet is a super versatile piece of furniture. It can be used as a library, a side table, small console, vinyl record player stand, plant stand, and many more. But that’s not all that this versatile piece has to offer. After many beginners classes where students have created something similar at The Shed Melbourne we realised the full potential of such a project. The Cabinet offers so many learning outcomes that it would be remiss of us not to look at it as our foundation project for people wanting to start out in the woodwork community.
Tailored for extreme beginners through to intermediate woodworkers, we offer 38 hours of structured workshop time, over an 8 week period, with the aim to create a beautiful piece of furniture that will last a lifetime and something you can always look at with pride.

Frequently Asked Questions
I can’t make the course, can I get a refund?
Unfortunately due to the nature of our business, and the infrastructure behind each course issuing refunds at present is a difficult task, we ask that you are able to commit to the enrolled class before purchasing and that you do not purchase on a whim. We work tirelessly to give each student a pleasant experience and so every penny made is put straight back into the business. We are happy for any student who cannot attend a class to on-sell their ticket to an able and willing participant. Just pass on their details and we will add them to the enrolled class and remove the initial student.
Do you provide the timber and materials?
YES! For the introduction to woodworking set project ONLY we do provide the timber for everyone's project, the timber provided will be a sustainably sourced timber of our choice and will be available on your first day of class. If you’d like choose your own timber bought from an approved supplier of sustainable timber at your own cost, you are more than welcome, however you will still pay the full amount for the course.. Please contact us to discuss your timber and supplier choice.
Do you provide the tools?
All woodworking tools are provided – power tools, hand tools, and equipment is provided.
We recommend, however, that if you are planning on pursuing woodworking as an ongoing hobby, you should consider investing in your own set of hand tools. This ensures you can keep them in good nick and that you’ll get the best results.
How many people will be in the class?
Each session time slot is maxed out at six people. This is to ensure that we have as much individualised time with the students as possible. Be prepared to make 5 new friends!
What do I need to bring?
Apart from your own hand tools (if you want), you will need to be prepared with appropriate clothing, closed-in shoes (preferably steel cap boots), tight fitting clothes, a hair tie if you have long hair and a sense of humour! We do provide our own PPE (Personal protection equipment) which are sanitised daily, however as the times are a changing we do recommend grabbing your own earmuffs and safety glasses to help eliminate cross contamination, these can be purchased at your local hardware store at a low cost.
I don’t want to make a box cabinet.
Thats completely fine, but you’re on the wrong page, jump on over to out beginners classes and see what we have available.
I want to sign up but I cannot commit to all classes.
In this class we build a beautiful piece of furniture, each week we have standard learning outcomes that will help you on your way to building your very own piece of furniture. We strongly recommend you are able to commit to every class. We do not run catch up classes outside of the times allocated to your set class.
